On November 24, 2025, the Biberach fire department carried out a realistic emergency drill in Arthur-Handtmann-Straße together with the Handtmann company. The aim of the exercise was to check the procedures in the event of an emergency and to further optimize cooperation between the emergency services.
After the alarm was raised by the automatic fire alarm system in the Metallgusswerk, a fire was simulated in which at least three fitters were considered missing. The fire department advanced with several teams wearing breathing apparatus to rescue people and fight the fire. At the same time, a hazardous substance leak was simulated following a collision between an industrial truck and an IBC container, which placed additional demands on the emergency services.
Daniel Weber, Head of Emergency Management at Handtmann, and Steffen Layer, Platoon Leader of the Biberach fire department, were very satisfied with the course of the exercise and praised the professional cooperation of all those involved. The knowledge gained will now be incorporated into future training and operational planning.
Such emergency drills are an important part of operational preparation in order to be able to react quickly, safely and effectively in an emergency.
